Biography: EVELYN J. SCHMIDT
CONSTANTIA- Evelyn J. Schmidt, 89, of Constantia, died Saturday March 28th, in the comfort of her home surrounded by family after suffering a brief illness. Evelyn was born August 11th, 1930 of Quality Hill, Canastota NY, the youngest of nine and the last survivor of Hubert & Carrie (Higgins) Smith. Evelyn was a graduate of Canastota High School and worked most of her life at GE, Electronic Parkway in Syracuse. On February 19th, 1965 Evelyn married Jack J. Schmidt (predeceased in 2008) and lived the rest of her life on the Northshore of Oneida Lake. Evelyn remained very much attached to her hometown of Canastota and her family throughout her life and was a member of the Constantia Congregational Church & later Trinity Episcopal Church. She was very active in the church gift shop and its renovation. Evelyn also spent years chairing the Miss Northshore Beauty Pageant and was always planning a party or baking a pie for someone special. Although Evelyn and Jack did not have any children together, she was the stepmother of Diane, (Don predeceased) Lewis, of Port Orange Florida, Jeanne (Richard) Dupre of Constantia. She was the step grandmother to Jacqueline (Randal) Stier, Katie (Frank) Booso, Jennifer (Joseph) Schiro & Heather Dupre significant other Chris Olin, with 9 great grandchildren, and 2 great great-grandchildren. Evelyn being the youngest sibling, she grew up with many of her nieces and nephews making her the cool aunt for them along with many of great nieces/nephews and great great-nieces/nephews.
Due to the COVID19 pandemic funeral services and will be held at a later date. Interment will also be private. A celebration of Life will be held at a later date most likely in August to celebrate what would have been her 90th birthday.
