Biography:
ROBERT E. WALKER
PENSACOLA, FLORIDA – Robert E. Walker, 65, Childers Street, formerly of Rock Road, Verona, died Saturday, January 25, 2014 in the Lakeland Regional Medical Center, shortly after his admission as a medical patient.
Born in Rome on May 26, 1948, he was the son of Lyle and Alice Davies Walker. A lifelong resident of the area, Bob was a graduate of Vernon-Verona-Sherrill schools. He married Suzanne Poppleton in Verona on October 21, 1972. They moved to Florida four years ago.
Prior to his retirement in 2005, Mr. Walker was employed for over thirty years, with New York State Thruway Authority, Canal Division, as a section superintendent. He was a member of the Verona Methodist Church and the Civil Service Employees Association. Mr. Walker was a veteran of the United States Army, serving in Viet Nam. He enjoyed motorcycling and camping.
Surviving are his wife, Suzanne, two sisters and their husbands, Nancy and Jack Morgan of Verona and Carol and Paul Kobler of Oriskany Falls; his mother-in-law, Marion Poppleton of Blossvale; two brothers-in-law and their wives, Richard and Sharon Poppleton of Verona and James and Kay Poppleton of Blossvale, and nieces and nephews, Steven Poppleton and Denise Durant and Jeffrey and Sheila Poppleton, all of Verona, Heidi Williams of Vernon and Joanne and Michael LaLonde of Rome, along with other nieces and nephews. He was pre-deceased by his parents, Lyle and Alice Walker, and his father-in-law, Richard Poppleton, Sr.
