Biography: BARBARA A. DUNN
ONEIDA- Barbara A. Dunn, 86, of Elizabeth Street, passed away Wednesday afternoon, September 7, 2022, in Oneida Healthcare, where she had been admitted the day before.
Born in Syracuse on June 10, 1936, she was the daughter of Robert and Clementina Fleishman Sawmiller. A lifelong resident of the area, Barbara was a graduate of Assumption High School and Central City Business Institute. She married Alfred T. “Sonny” Dunn in Assumption Church, Syracuse, on June 30, 1956. Sonny died on February 28, 2022.
Prior to her retirement, Barbara assisted in the family business, Dunn’s Bakery, in Canastota where she loved waiting and conversing with the customers. She enjoyed ceramics, bingo with her family and was known for her witty and joking nature. Barbara was a fan of Fritz’s Polka Band and country music. She was a communicant of St. Patrick’s Church.
Surviving are: two daughters, Kathy (Donald) Campanaro of Canastota and Karen (Don Spicer) Seelman of Oneida; two sons, Thomas A. Dunn of Oneida and Robert S. (Wendy) Dunn of Canastota; twelve grandchildren; twenty-two great-grandchildren; one sister, Mary Katherine Nichols of Liverpool, one brother, Joseph (Toni) Sawmiller of Florida and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Sonny and a brother, Robert Sawmiller.
Funeral services will be held 9:30AM Tuesday, September 13, 2022 from the Campbell-Dean Funeral Home, Inc., 260 Main Street, Oneida and 10AM from St. Patrick’s Church where the Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by the Reverend Nathan Brooks. Interment will be made in St. Patrick’s Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday, from 5-8PM. Contributions may be made to Wanderer’s Rest Humane Association, P.O. Box 353, Canastota, NY 13032.
