Biography: Frederick L. Scerbo, 79, Seneca Turnpike, Canastota, died Tuesday, May 23, 2023, in Upstate University Hospital, shortly after his admission from the Veterans Administration Medical Center.
Born Oriskany Falls, on July 17, 1943, he was the son of Fortunato “Fred” and Adeline Morelle Scerbo. A resident of this area for over fifty-five years, Fred was a graduate of the former Oriskany Falls High School.
Fred served with the United States Army, until his discharge due to a disability. He was a communicant of Our Lady of Good Counsel Church and a member of the church’s St. Joseph’s Men’s Society and a former member of the Knights of Columbus, Council # 473.
Surviving are his three daughters, Roseann (Loren “Skip”) O’Herien of Canastota, Linda (William) Stange of Wyoming, and Barbara (Perry) Sell of Virginia; his sister, Angela Veschusio of New Hartford; four grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by a son, Edward Scerbo, two brothers, Richard and Gaetano “Guy” Scerbo, a sister, Pauline D’Amico and a brother-in-law, Anthony Veschusio.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 AM, Thursday (6/1/23) from Our Lady of Good Counsel, Verona, where the Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by the Reverend Edmund Castronovo, pastor. Interment, with full military honors, will be made in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Oriskany Falls. Friends may call 5-7 PM, Wednesday at the Campbell-Dean Funeral Home, Inc., 260 Main Street, Oneida.
