Biography: Virginia Dawn Ranz, 95, of Creek Road, passed away peacefully at home, under the care of Hospice, early on Saturday morning, May 27, 2023.
She was born in the Town of Lincoln, Madison County, on November 28, 1927 to Nevada Dewey Tuttle and Leona Goff Tuttle. She graduated from Stockbridge Valley Central School and worked in the offices of Oneida Limited, Oneida City School District and a few local realtors’ offices. Bernard E. Ranz of Ellicottville and Dawn were united in marriage on October 28, 1950. It was a lasting union with the addition of a daughter, Roxanne Ranz.
In her early years, Dawn enjoyed the excitement of riding motorcycles and was a member of the Oneida District Riders Motorcycle Club. Influenced by her father, Nevada, at nineteen, took eight hours of lessons in a Luscombe airplane (small, single engine aircraft similar to a Cessna) at the Canastota Airport. When she soloed, her father didn’t watch as he didn’t think she could do it! She succeeded and really enjoyed flying.
She was predeceased by her beloved daughter Roxanne on June 6, 2020 and also her parents, Nevada and Leona. She is survived by her husband Bernard and several nieces, nephews and caregivers.
Funeral services will be held 12pm on Friday, June 2, 2023 from the Campbell-Dean Funeral Home, Inc., 260 Main Street, Oneida, with the Reverend Robert Wollaber, officiating. Interment will be made in Sunnyside Cemetery, Merrillsville. Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday from 10am-12pm, prior to the funeral service.
