Biography: Daniel J. “Danny” Cerio, 58, Canal Road, Canastota, died Monday evening, May 29, 2023, at his family’s vacation home, on Grindstone Island.
Born in Oneida, on March 26, 1965, he was the son of Arnold O. “Arnie” Cerio and Sharon Backus. A lifelong resident of this area, Danny was educated in Canastota schools.
He was co-owner of Arnie’s Produce and Kraig’s Kegs, both located in Sherrill. He was a communicant of St. Agatha’s Church, truly enjoyed his times at the Pine Rock Lodge on Grindstone Island, the St. Lawrence River, fishing, his work and his family.
Surviving are his two daughters, Cassandra “Cassie” (Charles) Bielby and Meredith (Zachry) Eddy, all of Canastota; his mother, Sharon Backus of Canastota; his father, Arnie Cerio of Canastota: his grandchildren, Dustin Eddy, Jr, Lynnsey Eddy, Madison Bielby, Braelynn Bielby, Zane Eddy and Lola Eddy; his sisters, Christine (Gregory) Mahar of Canastota and Shelly Cerio of Los Gatos, California; his brothers, Timothy M. (Amy Abel) Cerio of Kirkville and Patrick C. (Brooke) Dailey of New Suffolk; his former wife, Wendy Bonaventura of Canastota; nieces, Megan Wettlaufer and Lila and Lydia Dailey and nephews, Seth and Kyle Mahar and Gage Wettlaufer; and several aunts, uncles and cousins. He was predeceased by his close family friend, Craig Turrisi.
There are no public hours of visitation, but the family invites relatives and friends to his celebration of life at 1 PM, Sunday (6/4) at the Three Pines Restaurant, North Peterboro Street, Canastota. Interment will be made in the family plot at Grindstone Island Cemetery.
