EVERETT J. VANDERHOOF
VERONA – Everett J. Vanderhoof, 81, of Verona, passed away on September 15, 2013 surrounded by his loving family.
Everett was born in Holland Patent, NY on December 20, 1931, a son of Myron and Matilda Miller Vanderhoof. Everett moved to Verona in 1939 occupying the same house for 74 years until his death. He was a graduate of Verona High School, class of 1948. On June 28, 1952, he married Marilla Denison in Our Lady of Good Counsel Church in Verona, who predeceased him on August 15, 1990. Together they raised nine children. On June 10, 1995 he married Clara Kotary Denison in St. Leo’s Church, Holland Patent.
As a young man, he worked on various farms and as a short order cook. With a growing family, Everett worked at Rome Cable Corporation where he retired in 1987 after 35 years. In retirement, he enjoyed fishing and hunting trips with his brother, working with his sons doing contracting work and woodcutting as a hobby. He was a member of Our Lady of Good Counsel Church in Verona where he was a daily communicant.
Surviving are his wife, of 18 years, Clara; four daughters, Cheryl (John) Pilger of Cazenovia, Diane (Joseph) Baumler of East Syracuse, Brenda Wallingford of Phenix City, Alabama and Lisa Vanderhoof of Verona; five sons, Alan (Michele) Vanderhoof of Verona, David Vanderhoof of Verona, Robert (Brenda)Vanderhoof, of Canastota, Dr. James (Dr. Irene) Vanderhoof of Vernon and E. John (Megan) Vanderhoof of Verona; two step children, Ken (Michelle) Denison of Clinton, and Connie Dodge of Holland Patent; 33 grandchildren, 4 step-grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren and 2 more expected in 2014; one brother, Donald (Carol) Vanderhoof of Verona and one sister, Rita (Albert) Herter of Virginia; many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his father Myron in 1993, mother Matilda in 2005, sister Norma Cox in 2004 and a grandson Matthew Vanderhoof in 1997.
The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 AM, Thursday from Our Lady of Good Counsel Church, with the Reverend Edmund Castronovo, officiating. Interment will be in Verona Cemetery. Friends may call at the Campbell-Dean Funeral Home, Inc., 260 Main Street, Oneida from 5-8 PM, Wednesday.
