CANASTOTA- Ronald P. DenHaese, 72 of West Avenue, passed away early Tuesday morning, January 2, 2018, in The Grand at Chittenango.
Born in Canastota on November 5, 1945, he was the son of James and Ann DenHaese. A lifelong resident of the area, Ron was a graduate of Canastota High School and attended college while in the military. He married Sheila Sprague in Canastota on June 3, 2000.
Ron was a retired veteran of the United States Army, serving his country for twenty-one years. During his time in the Army, Ron was a helicopter pilot in Viet Nam and was shot down twice. He was a Sergeant at his time of retirement. After serving in the Army, Ron was employed by the former Oneida Savings Bank and Cardinal Health.
Ron was a member of the Canastota American Legion, Post 140, loved to golf and fish and enjoyed playing cards. He was of the Christian faith.
Surviving besides his wife Sheila are: one daughter, Cassandra; two sons, Brett and Ryan; four grandchildren; two nieces, Vicki Halpin and her daughter, Alexis Ashley and Alexis’ son, Landon abd Maryanne and Jamie Bach and their daughter, McKenzie and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two sisters, Alisha and Dureen and a brother Gilbert.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday, January 7, 2018, from the Campbell-Dean Funeral Home, Inc., 300 South Peterboro Street, Canastota with the Reverend Kurt Johnson, officiating. Spring interment will be made in St. Agatha’s Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday from 1-3PM, prior to the funeral service. To leave a message of condolence, please visit
