SALLY EMMI
CANASTOTA – After a long and healthy life, Sally Emmi passed away on January 7, 2018, a few weeks shy of her 101
st birthday.
Sally was born in 1917 in Chittenango, NY to Rosario and Lena DeMario and had four brothers, Andy, Louie, Sam, Joe and two sisters, Josephine and Mary. (Both Joe and Andy lived past 100!)
In 1939 she married the love of her life, Ernest Emmi and settled in Canastota where they lived happily together for 68 years until his death in 2007. She was very proud of Ernie’s accomplishments especially his three terms as Mayor of Canastota.
Together they raised four children, John (Phyllis); Duke (Patsy) and Patty (Brian Pitre). Their beloved son Chuck passed away in 2001. Sally also leaves behind four grandchildren, John (Nancy) and Ernie (Kim) of Alaska, Christine (Eric Craft) of Boston, Karen of Syracuse and seven great grandchildren.
Sally was a member of St. Agatha’s Church and an over 20 year member of the Canastota Lionettes (with perfect attendance!). She was the only surviving member of her much loved ‘sewing club’. For over 30 years, the six women friends gathered every Thursday night for food and lively conversation (not much sewing was done!).
Sally reached her 100
th birthday on February 23 and attended several parties that week hosted by dear friends. In June she was honored by her children at a ‘100 Years Plus 100 Days’ celebration attended by family from Alaska, Florida, New Jersey, Massachusetts and North Carolina.
The family wishes to thank Sam and Janet Lanzafame, Ricky Paone and Donna Woodward, Jim and Kari White, special friend, Mary Tornatore, the ‘Saturday Night Church and Graziano Girls’ and the entire Bush family – Tom, Joyce, Annie, Joe and Barbara for the caring friendship and support of our mother.
Sally was the cornerstone of the Emmi family always putting her children above all else. She loved her garden, crocheting on her back porch, walking ‘uptown’ and all who entered her kitchen. She never passed up a baby to hug, a spur of the moment shopping trip or second helping of dessert! She touched many lives with her generosity (giving everything away!) and good humor (Sally stories are plentiful) and was loved by all who knew her. There will be a huge void on New Boston Street.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10 AM Saturday, January 13
th at St. Agatha’s Catholic Church. The family will greet friends one hour prior to the Mass time, 9-10 AM.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Greater Lenox Ambulance Service, 1 Leland Wright Avenue, Canastota, NY 13032. To leave a message of condolence, please visit www.campbell-dean.com.
