CANASTOTA- Joseph V. Rinaldo, Sr., 83, Howard Street, died Friday morning, August 17, 2018, in the comfort of his home, surrounded by his family.
Born in Canastota, on December 25, 1934, he was the son of Anthony and Carmella Bruno Rinaldo. A longtime resident of Canastota, living in Syracuse from 1980-2004, Joe was a graduate of Canastota High School and attended Alfred University. He married Cynthia Barzee in Lake Placid on February 9, 1980.
For many years, Joe was employed with the former Bruno Vending Company and later All Seasons Vending. He was a former partner with his brother, Richard, in the formation of Rinaldo Amusements, following the purchase from the Bruno family. Joe also owned and operated Three Pines Restaurant with his brothers Vincent and Anthony and was the President of the Something Different store in Syracuse. He was a communicant and usher of St. Agatha’s Church and a former member and past President of the Canastota Central School Board of Education.
Surviving besides his wife, Cynthia, are three sons, Joseph V. (Dana) Rinaldo, Jr. of Canastota, Steven M. (Terri Hyatt) Rinaldo of Morrisville and Ronald A. (Susan) Rinaldo of Cazenovia; his step-son, Brian (Amy) Renna of Dewitt; his son-in-law, Milton Poppe of Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina; his sister, Florence Salamone of Canastota; his two brothers, Vincent J. (Maureen) Rinaldo and Richard R. (Leslie) Rinaldo, all of Canastota; his sister-in-law, Caron (Kent Price) Rinaldo Price of Canastota; his brother-in-law, George (Kathy) Barzee of Pawley’s Island, SC; ten grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was pre-deceased by his daughter, Debbie Poppe on June 5, 2015, his grandson, Ryan A. Wells on October4, 2006, his sister, Josephine “Pip” Borgognoni on January 1, 2017 and his brother, Anthony Rinaldo on February 12, 1986.
Funeral services will be held 9:30 AM, Tuesday, from St. Agatha’s Church, where the Funeral Mass will be celebrated by the Reverend Stephen Wirkes, pastor. Interment will be made in St. Agatha’s Cemetery. There are no public hours of visitation. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Campbell-Dean Funeral Home, Inc., Canastota. Richard, Vinnie, Florence and families. Our condolences to you and your family. Joe was a very genuine and class person, from a very nice Canastota family. He will be missed in Canastota.
