EDWIN M. BEICKERT
CANASTOTA- Edwin M. Beickert, 83, of Beach Road, lost his fight with cancer on August 20, 2018.
Born in Flushing, NY on November 4, 1934, he was the son of Albert and Mildred (Cernovsky) Beickert. A lifelong resident of Canastota and Chittenango, Ed was a graduate of Canastota High School, Class of 1952 and SUNY Morrisville, Class of 1954, with an Associate’s Degree in Food Technology. Ed was a wrestler in the US Army from 1957-1959 at Brooke Army Medical Center, Fort Sam Houston, San Antonio, Texas, and received commendation for Good Conduct. Prior to his retirement, Ed was employed as a carpenter, and was a Brother of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America, Local 747, for over 50 years. He is noted for having rental properties in Oneida, Oneida Castle, and on Oneida Lake, where he lived for most of his life. Ed was a member of the Central New York Waterways Association and was very passionate about the condition of Oneida Lake. He enjoyed deer hunting and was an avid fisherman, except he would mostly catch and release as he did not like the taste of fish. He loved to document the lake and the lives of his family by taking home movies. Ed was very independent and always on the go. He continued to work on his apartments or on his tractor at the beach, until his passing.
Surviving are: one son and daughter-in-law, David and Karin (VanSlyke) Beickert of Jamesville; three granddaughters, Rena, Arden and Elin; one sister and brother-in-law, Barbara and Roy Whitmoyer of Canastota; one niece, Robin (Abrams) Boone of Canastota and one great-niece Amberrae Abrams-Barnett of Arizona.
Calling hours will be held on Saturday, August 25, 2018 from 11am-1pm from the Campbell-Dean Funeral Home, Inc., 300 South Peterboro Street, Canastota. Interment will take place in Oneida Valley Cemetery at the convenience of the family. Contributions may be made to: CNY Waterways Inc., PO Box 33, Baldwinsville, NY 13027.
