VERONA- Louis J. Trunko, 93, of Rock Road, passed away on September 17, 2018 in his home following a brief illness.
Born in Higginsville on November 25, 1924, he was the son of Basil and Eugenia Ortynski Trunko. A lifelong resident of the area, Lou was a graduate of Verona High School, Class of 1943, and promptly enlisted in the United States Army Air Force, where he served in the Pacific Theatre. Once he was out of the service, he enrolled in Cornell University and graduated in 1950 with a Bachelor’s degree in agricultural economics. He married Joyce Fike in St. Peter’s Church, Rome on September 10, 1949.
Prior to his retirement with thirty-five years of service, Lou served as the President of Farm Credit Service.
Lou was a founding member of the Verona VFW and a member of the Mohican Model A. Club, the Grange, 4- H, the Oneida Elks Lodge BPOE 767, the Verona Fire Department, serving as president, the Verona Fire Commission, the Verona Historical Association, the Town of Verona Republican Club, a former member of the Rotary Club of Oneida and was a communicant of Our Lady of Good Counsel Church.
Surviving besides his wife Joyce, are his three daughters and sons-in-law, LouAnn and Robert Jones of Vernon, Mary and David Blair of Sherrill and Diane and Peter Tallini of Durhamville; his son and daughter-in-law, Thomas M. and Patricia Trunko of Verona; his brother, Wesley Trunko of Verona; twelve grandchildren; twenty-seven great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.  He was predeceased by his parents, two sisters, Ann and Elizabeth and two brothers, Michael and Joseph.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11AM Friday, September 21, 2018 from Our Lady of Good Counsel Church, Verona, where the Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by the Reverend Edmund Castronovo, pastor. Interment, with full military honors, will be made in Verona Cemetery. Friends may call at the Campbell-Dean Funeral Home, Inc., 260 Main Street, Oneida, 4-7 PM, Thursday. I'll always remember louie's smile! He was always so friendly and kind. He will be sorely missed by all who came in contact with him.

So saddened to learn of Louie’s passing. Such wonderful memories of Louie’s dedication to his family Community and the Fire Service. He was a credit to all and touch so many lives. We were so Lucky to have meet him & Joyce and formed a friendship. Be assured he is a member of the Greatest Generation and he heard those welcome words Well Done Good and Faithful Servant enter thou into the Joy of Your Lord.
