ONEIDA- Trevor S. Rice, 22, Brophy Rood, died Thursday evening, September 27, 2018, in the Town of Smithfield, from injuries sustained in a motor vehicle accident.
Born in Palatka, Florida, on May 18, 1996, he was the son of Trenton Rice and Elaine M. Erdige Rice. Moving to Oneida, at the age of four years. Trevor was a Class of 2014 graduate, with honors, from Oneida High School, where he received sports awards as a member of the football, volleyball and track teams and the Gold and Silver Keys for his awards in art. Also, Trevor received the Carl Crittenden Award for sculpture in 2013 and 2014. While at Oneida High School, he was an honors graduate of Madison-Oneida BOCES in automotive body and was inducted into the National Technical Honor Society. Trevor attended Alfred State College and received the Brian Gillespie Memorial Endowed Scholarship.
Trevor had been employed with Ralph’s Collision, Kiehn’s Collision,
Three Pines Restaurant, the Corner Diner Too and Harpoon Eddie’s Restaurant. A communicant of St. Helena’s Church, he enjoyed art, hiking, guitar playing and riding his dirt bike. During the 2013 Oneida Flood, he volunteered and provided assistance to several of the affected families.
Surviving are his mother and step-father, Elaine and James Farruggia of Oneida and his father and step-mother, Trenton and Debbi Rice of Canastota; his beloved sisters, Liz Rice and Ava Farruggia, both at home; his maternal grandparents, Edward and Eleanor Erdige of Munnsville and John and Maria Farruggia of West Winfield; his paternal grandparents, Frances and Charles Joseph of Sherrill and Wayne and Helene Rice of Interlachen, Florida; and several aunts, uncles and cousins. He was predeceased by his cousin, Hailey Rice
Funeral services will be held 11 AM, Saturday from St. Helena’s Church, Sherrill, where the Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by the Reverend William Mesmer, pastor. Interment will be made in St. Patrick’s Cemetery. Friends may call at the Campbell-Dean Funeral Home, Inc., 260 Main Street, Oneida, 3-7 PM, Friday. Contributions, in his memory, may be made to the Trevor S. Rice Art Award for the graduating senior at Oneida High School, in care of the funeral home.
