Biography: FLORENCE R. SALAMONE
CANASTOTA-Florence R. Salamone, 86, Deppoliti Avenue, died Monday, May 27, 2019, in the comfort of her home, surrounded by her loving family, following an extended illness.
Born in Canastota, on August 19, 1932, she was the daughter of Anthony and Carmella Bruno Rinaldo. A lifelong resident of Canastota, Flo was a graduate of Canastota High School, Class of 1951. She married Vincent J. Salamone, Sr, in St. Agatha’s Church, on October 23, 1952. Mr. Salamone died on January 22, 2013.
Prior to her retirement, Flo was employed with the Canastota School District as a secretary and previously had been employed with the former Henney Motors in Canastota. She was a communicant of St. Agatha’s Church and a member of the church’s Altar-Rosary Society and Bereavement Committee and was active with the Canastota School Alumni Association. Flo was proud that she was raised on Canastota’s muckland and loved family entertaining, cooking her Italian dishes, her fried chicken and her world famous carrot cake.
Surviving are her daughter, Judith A. Salamone of Manlius; her two sons, Vincent J. Salamone, Jr. of Canastota and Gary M. Salamone and his wife, Kelly of Sherrill; her three grandchildren, Nicholas J. Salamone, Taylor M. Salamone and Vincent J. Salamone III; her two brothers and their wives, Vincent J. and Maureen Rinaldo and Richard R. and Leslie Rinaldo, all of Canastota; her sisters-in-law, Jean Basilio and her husband, Paul, Cynthia Rinaldo, Shirley Rinaldo and Karon Rinaldo Price and her husband, Kent Price, all of Canastota; her dog, Chico; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
The family wishes to express their gratitude for the wonderful care given to Florence by her doctors, Dr. Michael Picciano and Dr. Ron Caputo and her caretakers, known as “Flo’s Angels”, who are Pandora Rebello, Michelle Arnold, Bonnie Sanborn, Shay Paradis, Cherry Giangotti, Melody Bennett, Kit O’Hara, Maria Farnach, Karen Swift, Dee Claire and her loving cousin, Virg Martin.
Funeral services will be held 8:45 AM, Monday from the Campbell-Dean Funeral Home, Inc., 300 S. Peterboro Street, Canastota and 9:30 AM from St. Agatha’s Church, where the Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by the Rev. Thomas Ryan. Entombment will be made in St. Agatha’s Church. Friends may call at the funeral home, 2-6 PM, Sunday. Contributions, in her memory, may be made to St. Agatha’s Bereavement Committee, 347 N.
